Services.

From customized workshops, classes, and lectures to one-on-one coaching and consultation, the Center for Active Women supports women, girls, and the people and organizations entrusted to care for their bodies – with an emphasis on nutrition, relationship with food and body, and hormonal health.

Nutrition

If a woman today does not have a complicated relationship with food, she certainly knows someone who does. The cacophony of nutritional advice and skewed cultural norms make it difficult to know how, when, and what to fuel an active life – particularly for women and girls.

The Center for Active Women provides individual and group resources, education, and support to nurture joyful, satisfying relationships with food among female athletes – as well as to manage and prevent Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (under-eating), disordered eating, eating disorders, and other nutritional challenges.

Body Image

Fitness and sporting cultures too often conflate weight and body composition with performance. The narrow assumption that athleticism looks muscular and lean means that many active women and girls feel inadequate, insufficient, and uncomfortable in their here-and-now bodies – especially during natural seasons of change, like puberty, pregnancy, perimenopause, and menopause.

The Center for Active Women works alongside athletes, coaches, trainers, parents, and organizations in both group and individual settings to cultivate environments where active women and girls are encouraged to nourish and embrace their bodies rather than bemoan and resist them.

Hormones

Despite the pervasiveness of hormonal disturbances in the world of sport, awareness among female athletes and those entrusted to care for their bodies remains alarmingly low. While many perceive missing periods as “normal” for active women and girls, for instance, the impact of menstrual disruptions extends far beyond the reproductive system, perhaps most notably catalyzing premature bone loss.

Through individualized support and group lectures/workshops, the Center for Active Women champions body literacy around menstrual and hormonal health, equipping active women and girls to work with their bodies rather than against them.

What Clients are Saying:

“After meeting Greta and learning about her expertise in hormonal health, I became curious to address my own history of period loss and food anxiety. As a long-distance runner with a history of endurance sports, I spent years believing loss of period and obsession with nutrition was a necessary evil of female athleticism.

I booked a discovery call, and was immediately drawn to Greta’s warm compassion and educated professionalism. Through our sessions, Greta gave me the tools I needed to recover my period and heal my hormones. Better yet, I regained confidence with food and trust in my body and its signals. Greta’s service includes not only practical and certified expertise to address nutrition-related challenges, but compassionate and effective counseling to address the mental and emotional motivations underlying food-relationship. Greta introduced me to thoughtful exercises and led me through a personalized curriculum that made space for me to acknowledge and consider my perceptions of my body, my sport, and food. There are infinite claims and ‘experts’ in the field of nutrition, but Greta’s approach is driven by evidence-based research, buttressed by thorough experience, and led by compassion. If you’re interested in improving or evaluating your relationship with food, you need Greta Jarvis. If you’re considering an investment in your holistic health, start with this one.
